Cleveleys Sea Defence Works
Part of our drive to "improve living spaces and living safely"

working in Partnership with

Programme

Objective: To programme the works to minimise disturbance to local resident and visitors whilst allowing the works to be constructed in a safe and efficient manner.

The proposed programme of works is over a period of 108 weeks commencing in November 2005.

The first phase will be from Carr Gate to Beach Road a length of 450m. During the construction period this length of the sea defence promenade will be closed together with the highway footpath on the seaward side. High quality hoarding will be constructed around the site.

The construction sequence will commence with demolition of the existing structures where required and testing of the existing promenade to allow large machinery. The toe of the new sea defences will then be piled, fill placed behind them and then the pre cast concrete units will be placed. The promenade will then be surfaced and environmental features such as lights, seats, bins and signs will be put into place.

On completion of the first phase of works the hoardings will be removed and the promenade opened. The hoardings will then be re-erected from Beach Road to Victoria Road West and the construction process started again.

Key Benefits

  • First two phases of the works constructed in two years, 50% quicker than originally proposed.

  • Sectional construction allowing large sections of the promenade to remain open throughout the construction process.

  • Key environmental improvements built into initial construction.

  • Artwork and features to follow main construction to allow additional funding and community involvement.
