Cleveleys Sea Defence Works
Part of our drive to "improve living spaces and living safely"

working in Partnership with

Objective: To protect the people of Cleveleys from coastal flooding whilst enhancing and sustaining a vibrant seaside resort.

The requirement to improve the coast defences at Cleveleys resulted from the Wyre Flood and Coastal Defence Strategy Plan which detailed a 50 year programme of works of which this scheme is the first.

The scheme is designed to protect the people of Cleveleys from coastal flooding but at its heart is the opportunity to enhance the promenade based on extensive consultation on what local people and visitors want from the seaside frontage.

The council's Coastal and Environmental Design teams have been working with Birse Civils Ltd the main contractor and lead designers Faber Maunsell to develop a scheme that fulfils the function of a coastal defence whist creating an attractive promenade experience.

Funding for the £15 million scheme will come from the Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs, the Environment Agency, North West Development Agency and the Council.
