Welcome to the home page of Cleveleys Sea Defence Works

This website details the sea defence and promenade improvement works currently being carried out at Cleveleys, a small seaside resort to the  north of Blackpool in Lancashire. The work are being constructed by Birse Coastal in partnership with Wyre Borough Council with finance provided by Defra, the North West Development Agency and the Council.

The first two phases of the works have now been completed over a length of approximately 750m. Finance has been provided for a third phase to be constructed immediately south of the new development. Site investigation works are currently underway, with construction expected to commence in late summer.

Latest phase of beach works on hold

Work on the ground stabilisation element of the latest phase of the sea defence and promenade improvement works has now been completed. A total of 683 vibro stone columns  have been installed between Victoria Road West and Kingsway to
strengthen the poor ground conditions. This work will significantly improve the load bearing capacity of the ground, allowing the permanent works to be constructed on a sound foundation.

With the columns now installed, the beach is to be left to settle prior to the commencement of the new defence works planned for October 2008.
